What's This?

What's The Big Idea?

A new bigger vane provides a bigger view that makes
Luminette® Quintette™ Privacy Sheers a great idea.

Luminette® has been reinvented with new options, new hardware, new fabrics and new colors. At the top of the list of what's new is Quintette™, a new, larger vane size that provides superior view-through.

Compare the Quintette vane with 4¾-inch louvers on the left to our Classic vane on the right. For a typical sliding glass door, Quintette sheers have 33% fewer vanes, providing 50% more view-through than the classic Luminette fabric with 3½-inch louvers!

The view is clearer, too. The new Portico™ fabric used exclusively with the Quintette vane size provides an
exceptional view−through feature due to its translucent textile properties.

Like all Luminette Privacy Sheers, The Quintette vane is offered with three operating systems: PowerGlide with Platinum Technology provides remote operation that is compatible with other Hunter Douglas window fashions; the new easy-to-use traveling wand and the traditional combination wand/cord.

Inherent Characteristics
In order to set accurate expectations for your customer during the sales process, there are a few inherent characteristics of Luminette® Quintette™ with Portico fabric that need to be understood.

  • With all Luminette sheers, there is a space between the last vane and the end treatment when the vanes are in a closed position. This space becomes more apparent with the 4¾ vane size because the sheer fabric is seen without the vane behind it. This is considered an acceptable characteristic of the product. These pictures show examples of the space on both the control side and non−control side. Outside mount applications are strongly recommended to minimize this issue.

Outside mount is strongly recommended to avoid privacy issues or light gaps.

  • Luminette Privacy Sheers are similar to a draperies in some ways. During installation Luminette sheers require adjustments and dressing of the end treatments to ensure that the sheer appears uniform.

  • The 4¾" Vane Size requires three spacer blocks with a faceplate for ½" clearance.  The full projection from the back of the bracket to the front of the sheer is eight inches for Luminette Quintette.  One additional spacer block per bracket may be added for a total of 1-inch clearance, bringing the overall projection to 8½-inches.

  • For privacy and to ensure that there are no light gaps at the sides the recommended overlap per side is six inches for the Quintette vane. If projection brackets or additional spacers are used it is recommended to increase the overlaps as well.

  • Approximately 80% of all Luminette sales are outside mount. Outside mount applications usually allow for stacking the sheer on the wall and allow maximum use of the window or door that is being covered.  See the stacking chart in the Hunter Douglas Reference Guide for complete details.
