New Cord Stop For All Cordlock
Operated Top-Down/Bottom-Up
and DuoLite® Honeycomb Shades
Beginning April 4, 2005.

Top-Down/Bottom-Up
For many years,  Top-Down/Bottom-Up operation has been the most popular design option for Hunter Douglas honeycomb shades in both the Duette® and Applause™ product lines.

Duolite®
Not far behind in popularity is the Duolite® option which works much like a top-down/bottom-up shade but shifts between two fabrics, usually combining a sheer with an opaque fabric.

UPDATE
May 23, 2005

In order to implement safety enhancements when they become available, Hunter Douglas specifications have been updated to provide that all new and remake Standard Cordlock Honeycomb Top-Down/Bottom-Up and Duolite Shades now feature the new breakaway cord stop. All repaired or remade top-down/ bottom-up or Duolite shades will have the tag at right to inform the consumer that the shades have been updated for safety.

Be sure to continue reminding your customers of the importance of keeping all cords, including those fitted with the breakaway cord stop, out of the reach of children at all times.

New Breakaway Cord Stop

Beginning APRIL 4, 2005, cordlock operated DuoLite and Top-Down Bottom-Up Shades in both the Duette® and Applause™ product lines will be made with a new child-safety feature, the Breakaway Cord Stop.  Similar to cord stops used with Hunter Douglas horizontal blinds, this breakaway cord stop comes apart under pressure and snaps back together to hold cords together securely.

Because the cord stop holds only two cords together, multiple sets of breakaway cord stops will be used for wider shades, as shown in the chart below.  Note: This means that on wider shades there will be MULTIPLE CORDS that must be operated in unison to control the lifting and lowering functions of these shades.

This change affects only Top-Down/Bottom-Up and DuoLite shades made with cordlock controls. It is quite a bit different than these shades have been made before.  Be sure that your customer makes an informed choice.

Fabric Type Width # of Cords and Cord Stops
3/8"  &  3/4" Fabrics 12" - 60" 2 (1 right / 1 left)
60 1/8" - 96" 4 (2 right / 2 left)
96 1/8" - 108" 6 (3 right / 3 left)

1/2" Fabrics 12" - 60" 2 (1 right / 1 left)
60 1/8" - 96" 4 (2 right / 2 left)

Double Honeycomb 12" - 24" 2 (1 right / 1 left)
24 1/8" - 84" 4 (2 right / 2 left)

Triple Honeycomb 12" - 84" 4 (2 right / 2 left)

Stay Safe While Keeping Cords Completely Out Of Your Way
Explore These Options

Fortunately, there are other options for Top-Down, Top-Down/Bottom-Up and DuoLite in the Duette product line only.  Designer Blinds strongly recommends you guide your customer to these upgrade options.

DuoLite & Top-Down/Bottom-Up with UltraGlide
Since cordlock operated DuoLite and Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades have cords on each side that may get tangled up, Ultraglide is a great solution. DuoLite and Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades made with UltraGlide will always have just one cord on each side and each cord always retracts neatly to it's shortest position.

DuoLite & Top-Down/Bottom-Up with LiteRise™
A more recent option, just released this fall is LiteRise™ for either DuoLite or Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades which completely eliminates operating cords.  All it takes is a simple lift for either the middle rail or bottom rail to fully operate the shade.

One thing to keep in mind. LiteRise is a great option for shades that are completely within reach from top to bottom.  In houses where some windows are fully within reach and others are not, use a combination of LiteRise and UltraGlide to meet your customers needs.

Top-Down Only PowerRise®
Top-Down PowerRise™ shades are now available. Note: this is Top-down only and not Top-down/bottom up.  Though the motor is slightly different, all other components such as satellite eyes, battery wands, battery packs and AC transformers are completely compatible with the Top-Down  version of PowerRise.
