Relieve Tension Headaches!

Installing Universal Cord Tensioners With Too Much Tension Can Lead To Trouble. But Getting The
Tension Set Correctly
Will Lead To Long-Lasting
"Pane" Relief

Setting Tension Is nothing you need to be Tense About.

The universal cord tensioner is used with a wide array of products that are operated with clutch mechanisms. The main purpose of the cord tensioner is to provide safe, one-handed operation of cord loops and prevent them from becoming a strangulation risk to children.  It is NOT an option to leave cord tensioners unattached.  This increases the safety risks associated with unattached looped cords.  Unattached tensioners are also inconvenient as they will require two handed operation for products that can easily be operated with just one hand.

There are multiple ways to attach cord tensioners for both inside and outside mount applications. Each method is described in the Cord Tensioner Installation Guide that comes with shades and shadings that require a cord tensioner. Some methods require using the inside or outside brackets provided.  Or, for inside mount applications the tensioner may be attached with just a screw as illustrated below.  No matter which method is used, it is important to be careful not to pull the tension overly tight.  When the tension is set too tight, it makes the shades or shadings harder to operate and can lead to broken cord loops.

WRONG WAY
This tensioner is set too tightly.  You can tell because it is fully extended.  The cords will be taut, which can eventually lead to a broken cord loop that needs to be replaced.

CORRECT WAY
This tensioner is set more appropriately with just slight tension which tethers the cord loop and allows easy operation.  With tension set like this, you can be assured of a long life for the cord loop.

New Flush Mount Cord Tensioner Used With Silhouette Top-Down/Bottom-Up

For new Silhouette Top-Down/Bottom-Up shadings, the Cord Tensioner must be mounted in front of the shading with the tab toward the outside, to avoid interference with the operation of the shading.  So a new Flush-Mount Cord-Tensioner is provided.  Installation is similar to the other methods.  Here is how it is installed:

Set the flush mount plate to the cord tensioner

Flip the tensioner over and attach the two pieces with the screw provided.
Hold the tensioner against the inside of the window and pull until there is a slight spring tension on the cord.  Do not pull to a taut position.  Then make a pencil mark to spot your installation screws.
Install the first screw on your mark.  Make sure the tensioner is set with appropriate tension before installing the second mounting screw.
