You're
Down & Out!
A Few Hints For
Alouette Light Louvers
For Outside Mount Windows
Like most window coverings, Alouette™ light louvers are typically photographed as inside
mounts. However, they also work well and look great when outside-mounted. Here are a few outside
mounting tips to help ensure your customers’ satisfaction.
Measuring
For windows with no moulding, measure the width and height of the window opening, and add 6" to each to allow for the recommended 3" of overlap on all sides.
This will ensure privacy when the shade is down and outside
mounted. The overlap is needed to compensate for the gap
between the wall and fabric when the louvers are closed.
Make sure your customer understands that you are measuring
to ensure privacy and make sure that any competitors measure
the same way.
For windows with mouldings, measure the width of the outer molding
at the top and add 11/2" for bracket mounting (3/4" on each side). Measure the height of the outer molding and
add 1/8" to compensate for the height deduction. This will result in an installation like the one shown here. When
closed, the louvers will align almost exactly with the edges of the molding.
Spacer blocks.
Order enough spacer blocks to allow the louvers clear the molding and any
obstructions. Each spacer block adds 1/2" clearance, and up to three per installation
bracket may be used. With BTS and BCS systems, also check that there are no obstructions to the pivot bracket.
Mounting. Secure attachment of the installation brackets or spacer blocks is essential. When mounting
to drywall, always locate the stud or use wall anchors.
Note: if you add spacer blocks you should also add to the
width of the window. By projecting the louvers further
forward, additional overlap is required, equal to the added
depth.
French Doors
Use Tilt bar systems (BTS or BCS) only for French
Doors. The tilt shuttle on CCS systems could cause damage by swinging when the
door is opened and closed. Measuring. Measure the area to be covered by closed
louvers. Then add 11/4" to the width and 1/8" to the height.
Recommended tilt bar position is on the hinged side of the door to avoid conflict with the door handle. Be sure
there is adequate mounting surface for the pivot bracket.
