Mike's Magical
Adjustable Cap!

This week my friend Mike Studelska, Designer Blinds Production Manager for Summerwind Shutters, told me he'd like more people to know about an easy adjustment that's now included with every panel of Summerwind Shutters.  So I invited Mike to give me a hand with this week's tip to spread the word about his "magical adjustable cap".

Is It On The Level?

When Summerwind Shutters are installed, panels are adjusted to being as close to level as the window allows.  Because some windows are not perfectly square...okay, because most windows are not perfectly square...sometimes a little extra adjustment is needed.

In order to make this adjustment easy, Summerwind Shutters made by Designer Blinds now have a leveling cap at the lower non-hinged side of each panel.

These caps have been included on all panels for several months.  The simple screw adjustment makes it easy to make minor tweaks to the shutter panels after they've been installed.
"The beauty of it is," says Mike, " You don't even need a screwdriver to make an adjustment.  Just reach into your pocket and grab a coin."  Mike has never been one to play around with small change, so he uses quarters.

The screw is turned all the way in to begin with.  To raise the panel, use a quarter to turn the adjusting screw in a counterclockwise direction.  If you take it too far, simply lower the panel by turning the adjusting screw in a clockwise direction.

Retrofitting Older Shutters
The adjustable cap is may be retrofitted to shutters that were made before it's use.  In most cases it can be accomplished with the shutter set in place.  Use a razor knife to carefully loosen and remove the old end cap as shown below.  Replace it by pressing or tapping the new adjustable cap into place.

Mike says, "Thanks for letting us share our little panel discussion."
