Summerwind Shutters

Add Many Benefits to
the Time-Honored Look
of Shutters for a Beautiful
and Practical Choice
Throughout Any Home

There’s nothing quite like the appeal of interior shutters. This perfect combination of fashion and function has been appreciated around the world, literally for centuries. For shutters, today’s innovative high quality vinyl offers many advantages over wood.

Vinyl is not subject to the natural deterioration that eventually takes its toll on any wood. Good quality vinyl shutters will come with a lifetime guarantee that they won’t fade with the sun, chip, crack or peel.

Best of all, they will never need to be repainted. They are unaffected by moisture or extreme temperatures —cold or hot. All of this makes vinyl shutters the perfect choice for areas of your home that are affected by moisture and heat like kitchens and bathrooms. But the beauty of vinyl shutters makes then a perfect choice throughout your home. The style and function is at home in either formal or casual settings.

Vanes open up to a beautiful view and when closed provide privacy, energy efficiency and perfect light control. You can choose to tilt the louvers with traditional tilt bar that runs down the center of the shutter panel, or a more contemporary system with no visible tilt bar that allows you to raise or lower all of the louvers by simply moving any vane to the desired position.

A wide variety of frame styles make vinyl shutters adaptable to virtually any window in your home. Special systems are available to make vinyl shutters the perfect solution for doors, too. For patio doors, fully functional vinyl shutters are a great alternative to vertical blinds, offering a great look that blends perfectly with other windows in the same room.

Modern manufacturing techniques virtually eliminate the inherent flaws of wood. With wood, it may be a matter of somebody’s opinion whether a particular vane is good enough to be in your shutters. With vinyl, the guesswork is eliminated. This also speeds up the production process. During peak times of the year, wood shutters can take months to be delivered. Vinyl shutters can be custom made for your windows and professionally installed in just a couple of weeks from the time your order is placed.

With all the advantages of vinyl, you might expect them to cost more than wood. But you’ll love the price, too. High quality Summerwind Shutters by Designer Blinds are available at 36% to 50% below the cost of comparable quality wood shutters. So with vinyl shutters you truly can have it all —fashion, function, durability and more. All at a price that can fit any budget.

Features To Look For In Vinyl Shutters
Good quality vinyl shutters will have several types of frame styles to choose from to make them perfectly suited to your windows and doors. Hinges should be color matched to blend in with the shutter without distracting from the beauty of the product. The hinges should also allow easy removal of the shutter panel for full access to your windows. All components – frames, rails, jambs and louvers should be reinforced for added strength. Traditional tilt bars can be used to lock the louvers in an open position. Optional systems with no tilt bar provide a more contemporary look. With either type of tilt system, the shutter’s louvers should rotate from fully closed in the upward position to fully closed down, with the ability to stop the vane in any position in between. Good quality vinyl shutters will block light between panels and around all edges.

Options To Consider:

Outside Or Inside Mount — Consider mounting your shutters outside the window frame instead of inside the window frame. This is usually the best approach for shutters because it creates the illusion of a larger window while providing the maximum view when the louvers are open. Shutters that are mounted outside the frame also allow you to conceal windows that are out of square with shutters that are perfectly shaped.

Vane Size — Decide which vane size you prefer. Either vane size, 2½" or 3 ½", offers a great look and it is mostly a matter of personal preference. Keep in mind that the larger vane provides a better view to the outside and allows more light into your room.

Divider Rail Placement — As with all shutters, depending on the overall height of your shutter panel, a center divider rail may be required. When a divider rail is present, it is like having two shutter panels in one, with each portion operating independently. The divider rail does not have to be exactly centered in height. You may want to line it up with other architectural features of your room, like chair rail, or place it a so you can allow light in through the upper portion of the shutter while maintaining privacy with the lower louvers closed.

Hinges — Matching the color of the hinges to your shutter panel is usually the preferred choice. But you may also choose a brass hinge if you prefer.

Knobs — Most people choose not to have knobs on their shutter panels, but they are available and can be used if you prefer.

Frames — Frame options enable shutters to adapt to any kind of window. You may choose not to have all four sides framed in some circumstances

The Investment
More than other window coverings, shutters of any material are an important and considerably more permanent investment in your customer's home. The personality of shutters is perfectly complemented by high quality resin —technologically advanced vinyl that has been specially developed for years of carefree service in any home and in any environment.
