"This EasyRise®

 Shade is Wider

       Than I Ordered..."

The Headrail On EasyRise® and Easy Glide® Shades Is Made WIDER Than the Ordered Dimensions For Outside Mounts.  Here's why.

This tip applies to Hunter Douglas Duette® & Applause honeycomb shades
and Brilliance Pleated Shades

The headrails for EasyRise and Easy Glide shades, ordered as "outside mount" are made three quarters of an inch WIDER than the ordered width.  The fabric for the shade is made to the exact ordered width (plus or minus an eighth-inch tolerance). This way, the entire specified dimension is covered by the product.  The picture at left shows the same window as above viewed from the side.  The fabric is aligned perfectly with the window's trim, but the clutch mechanism extends beyond the window

The headrail is wider in order to accommodate the cord-tensioning device, allowing the cord loop to hang straight down instead of being pulled at an angle when attached to the wall with the tensioning device.  The cord-tensioning system adds safety to the EasyRise shade by preventing the possibility of injury or even death  by strangulation from a free-hanging looped cord.

Avoid Mistakes By Specifying Correctly

Because EasyRise and Easy Glide shades are made this way, always order them using the exact dimensions and mounting method you will be using.  The "old school" method of taking your own deductions and ordering "outside mount" in order to get a tighter fit for shades that will actually be installed inside the window frame cannot be applied to EasyRise and/or Easy Glide shades. With these products, be sure to accurately describe the window's dimensions and the mounting technique that will be used.

Watch Out For The Kitchen Sink!

One big place for mistakes of this type is the "over the kitchen sink" window.  Many times these windows are measured and specified using "outside mount" techniques, but because of cabinets at the sides of the window, the true opening should be specified as an inside mount.  If not, the product simply won't fit the opening.  This is true, of course, for all products, but especially for products like these that will be made wider than the opening when ordered outside mount.

Inside Mount EasyRise & Easy Glide
Shades Are Made Differently From
Outside Mount Shades

The method for attaching fabric to Inside Mount EasyRise and Easy Glide shades is slightly different than it is for outside mount shades.  The technique allows gaps at the sides to be kept to a minimum while still allowing space for the cord tensioning system to be installed.

Try UltraGlide™
When gaps at the sides of a window are an issue, you may want to consider using an UltraGlide™ lift system instead of the EasyRise or Easy Glide.  Compare the Ultraglide, shown at left with the EasyRise shade above.  The retractable cord of the UltraGlide requires no tensioning device and hangs freely as a single cord in front of the shade, allowing the fabric to fit the window more tightly.

<< Note: UltraGlide is available only with the Duette product line
