Relieve Tension!

THE BEAUTY OF THE WINDOW TREATMENT
SHOULD STAND OUT — NOT THE WAND!

This tip applies to:

• Luminette® Privacy Sheers™
• Millenia™ Vertical Blinds
(with optional PermaTilt™ wand system)

The PermaTilt wand and cord system combines the functions of tilting vanes or louvers and traversing vanes or louvers into one easy to use control.  First introduced with Luminette Privacy Sheers, it is also available as an option on Hunter Douglas Vertical Blinds. Occasionally, when you install a product that uses this system, the wand will not hang straight and will actually pull itself forward and stand out from the shade at an angle, as shown in the picture above.  This can be easily fixed by making an adjustment to the cord tension.

The "Official Instructions"

The cord tension is adjusted by moving the cord tether up or down the wand.  The cord tether is the plastic cylinder that holds the cord in place on the wand.  The installation instructions show that the tether can be loosened for adjustment by inserting a .050 hex wrench (included with Luminette) and turning the wand until you locate the screw that holds it tightly against the tether.  The instructions also say that you can actually look through the hole in the tether to see when it is aligned with the set screw.  Most people, though, find this to be difficult.  The easier way, described below, will save you a lot of frustration and can be completed in less than a minute —even with no experience.

Pull the Tether Apart...

You will find the set screw much more quickly by removing the cord tether cover.  This is done by simply grasping both sides of the cord and pulling firmly away from the tether. Then making the adjustment to the tether.  Ideally, the cord tether should be just slightly looser than taut, but no looser than is necessary to allow the wand to hang straight.

Adjust the Cord Tension...

To adjust the cord tension, turn the set screw counterclockwise. This will release the tether.  Raise the tether to a higher position on the wand to reduce cord tension.  Move it to a lower position on the wand to increase the tension.

When properly positioned, turn the set screw clockwise to re-tighten the screw

Reattach The Tether...

To reattach the tether cover, make sure the cord is looped around the guide on the inside of the cord tether cover.

Starting at the base of the cylinder, snap the two sections of the cord tether together with your fingers.  It's a good, solid snap and the tether stays together securely.
