Revolutionary Retractable Cord Operation!

Duette®
UltraGlide

RAISED OR LOWERED, THE CORD LENGTH
ALWAYS RETRACTS TO THE SAME SIZE

AVAILABLE IN TOP-DOWN,
TOP-DOWN/BOTTOM UP, DUOLITE™
AND TWO-ON-ONE HEADRAIL

Operation

Duette Ultraglide makes it easier to operate Duette honeycomb shades. Available on Duette Manhattan™ and Duette Originals™ shades.   When the retractable cord is moved to a slight angle toward the center of the shade, the shade lowers itself.  The spring tension that holds the shade up is released in a slow, controlled way and the bottom rail gently floats to the bottom of the window.  To stop the lowering before the shade reaches the bottom, the cord is moved in the opposite direction, slightly away from the center of the shade.

To raise the shade, the cord is pulled straight down in short strokes.  Each time the cord is pulled, it retracts to its original length.  Ultraglide eliminates the long dangling cords used with shades. It not only looks better, it enhances safety, too.

Options

Duette Ultraglide can also be used in the popular Top-Down/Bottom-Up operation.  Since Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades have a cord on each side, Ultraglide is especially useful in windows that are side by side, where the long cords used on standard shades may get tangled up.  The short Ultraglide cords always stay neat and you can always tell which shade the cord belongs to.

The technical drawing of the Top-Down/Bottom-Up Ultraglide shade in the Hunter Douglas Reference and Pricing Guide is incorrect.  The updated drawing at left shows that the cords that operate the middle and bottom rail respectively on Ultraglide are separated by three inches.   On any Top-Down/Bottom-Up shade, there is a set of cords that operates the middle moving rail and another that operates the bottom rail. In standard Top-Down/Bottom-Up shades, Designer Blinds is able to run both sets of cords through a single hole. So it appears to be one cord. On Ultraglide, this is not possible because of the special ways that these shades are constructed, so the cords are separated by three inches.

Other Options

Duette Shades with Ultraglide are also available in Top-Down only operation. On Top-Down shades, the middle rail moves and the fabric stacks to the bottom of the window, but the shade's bottom rail cannot be raised and lowered like Top-Down/Bottom Up shades.

Another option for enhanced light control is DuoLite® shades.  The DuoLite operates much like the Top-down/Bottom-up, except uses two shade fabrics, usually a sheer fabric above and a room-darkening fabric below.  The combination allows the shade to go from fully sheer to fully room-darkening to fully open in seconds.  Ultraglide makes it even easier than ever and eliminates long cords.

Installation

Installation of UltraGlide shades is easy. The bracket is designed to fit into even the tightest space.  One type of bracket serves the purpose of mounting to the ceiling, to the wall or, in really tight places, it has a hole to allow mounting into the corner of the window trim.  Ultraglide shades snap easily into the bracket and are held securely.  They can be released from the brackets by pushing the back tab away either with a finger or a flat screwdriver slightly away from the headrail.

Final Adjustment

After installation, you will notice excess cord at the bottom rail.  This cord is there to allow you to make final adjustments to the length of the shade.  This is the same method used with Duette Manhattan EasyRise® shades and Duette PowerRise® shades.

1. With the bottom rail hanging freely, pull the cord that controls the limit switch.  If the ferrule comes out of the pocket, tension needs to be increased. 2. To increase tension, loosen the cord and slide the ferrule up. Adjust so that the tension on this cord is slightly greater than on other cords. 3. Replace the ferrule back into the pocket.  Push it in flush to the rail. Test shade operation and readjust if necessary. 4. After adjustment is complete and shade operates normally, trim the cord snugly to the ferrule.

Designer Blinds advises leaving a small bit of excess cord-- enough to get a hold if further adjustment is needed at a later date
